WHO: Av avid podcaster, C.M. Mayo is also the author of the novel The Last Prince of the Mexican Empire (Unbridled Books), which was named a Library Journal Best Book 2009; Miraculous Air: Journey of a Thousand Miles through Baja California, the Other Mexico (Milkweed Editions); and Sky Over El Nido (University of Georgia Press), which won the Flannery O'Connor Award for Short Fiction. Mayo started out podcasting in 2009 with a simple recording of her lecture for the Library of Congress about the original research behind her novel; since then, as she puts it, "it's just been one podcast after another." Currently she hosts two podcast series, "Conversations with Other Writers" and, apropos of a travel memoir in progress, "Marfa Mondays: Exploring Marfa, TX & Environs in 24 Podcasts." Visit her homepage at www.cmmayo.

WHAT: An "easy peasy" guide to podcasting for writers, rich with links to recommended podcasts, software, hosting services, and much more. Two editions are currently available, Kindle on amazon.com and iBook from the iBookstore / iTunes.

"What a charming little manual—and what a delightful way to learn about podcasting! C.M. Mayo generously offers writers and other would-be podcasters a step-by-step guide to the process of creating an audio recording for the internet. Coming at it with full understanding of the hesitancy others may feel about attempting to podcast, she provides encouraging words, makes her instructions clear and straight-forward, and provides many tips that will help others head off glitches at the pass. In addition to her “easy peasy” ten steps, which are just that, readers are treated to the choice images, ingenious similes, and clever humor that are this writer’s hallmarks. Learn about podcasting while Mayo calls into your mind images of guitarists with mutton chops, Edith Wharton blogging, and kids at pond-side tiddlywinking peas. The book is packed with resources, and the collection of interviews with other writer-podcasters in the appendices are wonderful. If you have a yen to podcast, grab this book and your voice will be on line before the tiddlywink hits the pond." Sara Mansfield Taber

In 10 simple steps, experienced podcaster and award-winning author C.M. Mayo shows how any writer or other creative entrepeneur with access to the Internet can make and publish a uniquely apt podcast. She addresses content, branding, software, equipment, editing, hosting services, publicity, and also offers extensive Q & A with outstanding creative writer / podcasters. Both ebook editions are rich with links so that readers who are online may immediately go to recommended websites and podcasts.

WHY: A podcasting is a powerful tool for writers to reach readers and nonreaders and now, with recent revolutionary improvements in software and equipment, well within both technical and economical reach for most writers yet few are aware of this and many feel intimidated.
